Singing Strategy

Our mission in North Tyneside is to make every school a singing school.

● Singing Strategy

To achieve this, we have in place:

  • A singing strategy for primary schools, based around a specialised Sing Up scheme

  • A singing strategy lead and a team of dedicated tutors to support with delivery of singing in schools

  • Termly gifted and talented singing days for secondary aged studentsA number of weekly choirs and free of charge singing activities

  • The opportunity to participate in a number of local, regional and national events

We also host a number of collaborative events, not least our annual Spring Sing: a week-long singing celebration held each year at the Whitley Bay Playhouse which usually involves over 1,000 children and young people from our primary schools across North Tyneside. In recent years, we have also worked in partnership with National Youth Choir, putting forward a number of young people to take part in taster weekends and supporting them in  auditioning for the main choir.

Our primary and secondary schools also get the opportunity to take part in the annual Durham Vocal Festival Choir of the Year competition. We have offered enhancement activities with Samling Academy and collaborated with  Music Partnership North Newcastle to offer a number of joint projects, including our recent virtual performance of Fiona Lander’s What Christmas is For.
