Saturday Music Centre Offers Musical Opportunities for Young People Across North Tyneside and Newcastle

It's been an exciting start to the new academic year at North Tyneside Music's Saturday Music Centre, with over 220 young musicians from across North Tyneside and Newcastle coming together each week, to rehearse, learn new skills and make music as part of a vibrant musical community. The Centre, led by an expert staff team and based at John Spence Community High School, welcomes children and young people aged 5-18 and offers a wide range of musical opportunities for all abilities.

Since the start of term, rehearsal rooms have been buzzing with activity as players and singers have settled into ensembles ranging from beginner groups and training ensembles through to advanced bands and string groups. Young people are developing their musicianship, building confidence and enjoying the opportunity to perform alongside others who share their passion for music.

The Saturday Music Centre, delivered in partnership with Newcastle Music Service, offers something for everyone, including beginner orchestras, recorder groups, string ensembles, concert band, children's choir, jazz training ensembles and music theory support sessions. These opportunities provide clear progression routes for young musicians while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where friendships and musical skills can flourish.

As preparations continue throughout the autumn term, excitement is already building towards the Centre's end-of-term concerts, which will take place on 24th, 25th and 28th November. These performances will showcase the hard work and progress made by the Centre's many ensembles and offer audiences the chance to celebrate the achievements of the region's young musicians.

With another successful term underway, the Saturday Music Centre continues to demonstrate the value of regular ensemble music-making, bringing together young people from different schools and backgrounds to learn, perform and enjoy music together.

Interested in getting involved? Whether you're taking your first musical steps or looking for a new ensemble to challenge and inspire you, the Saturday Music Centre has something to offer. New members are welcome, and families are encouraged to explore the range of opportunities available. Find out more about our offer here!
