Celebrating a Summer of Music Across North Tyneside
This June and July, North Tyneside Music delivered an exciting programme of live events showcasing the very best of local talent.
Throughout the summer, young musicians from across North Tyneside took to stages across the borough in a vibrant series of performances, celebrating creativity, collaboration and musical achievement. From large-scale concerts to intimate live gigs, the programme offered something for everyone and highlighted the incredible talent of our young people.
Summer Sings at Whitley Bay Playhouse
Our much-loved Summer Sings events returned to Whitley Bay Playhouse on 16 and 17 June. These special concerts brought together pupils from 13 North Tyneside primary schools, alongside the North Tyneside Steel Band, Jazz Ensemble and Children's Choir. Audiences enjoyed uplifting performances and a joyful celebration of singing and ensemble music-making.
Traxx Rock School Live at Exchange 1856
Rock fans were treated to two fantastic evenings of live music at Exchange 1856 on 24 and 25 June, where 12 Traxx Rock School bands performed. Featuring standout local acts including Helldawg and Belladonna, the gigs were packed with high-energy performances, original music and the unmistakable buzz of emerging talent.
A Busy Day of Celebration
On Saturday 28 June, our Saturday Music Centre hosted its annual summer celebration at John Spence Community High School. Bringing together young people aged 5 to 18, the event featured more than 200 musicians performing across nine ensembles, ranging from our Beginner Band through to our senior groups.
The celebration was particularly special as we recognised five young people who left after ten years at the centre, marking a decade of commitment, progress and musical achievement. It was a memorable occasion shared with families, friends and staff.
Later that same day, our Brass Group also performed at the North Tyneside Together Festival, contributing to a fantastic community celebration filled with live music and activities for all ages.
Emerging Artists Showcase
Our Emerging Artists, Becoming the Artist and Sounding Out! groups took to the stage at Crew Gal Academy, North Shields, on 1 July. Around 20 young singers and performers took part in the showcase, demonstrating creativity, individuality and the exciting potential of the next generation of musical talent in North Tyneside.
Wallsend Festival
On 4 July, young musicians once again played an important role in North Tyneside Council's Wallsend Festival, performing alongside a range of local acts as part of a lively day of music and community celebration.
Mouth of the Tyne Festival Highlights
North Tyneside Music was proud to be part of the Mouth of the Tyne Festival celebrations in Tynemouth with eight local primary schools bringing colour, energy and rhythm to the streets as part of the vibrant Samba Parade. We were also proud to partner with Sunday for Sammy for their live daytime stage where three of our talented young artists, Sam Idurobu, Archie Worrall and Billie, delivered memorable performances for festival audiences.
A Summer to Remember
From choirs and steel band to rock bands and samba rhythms, this summer's programme showcased the incredible breadth of musical talent across North Tyneside. The events provided countless opportunities for young people to perform, collaborate and grow as musicians, while bringing communities together through the shared enjoyment of live music.
We would like to thank all the young musicians, schools, families, staff and audiences who helped make this summer such a success. Together, we celebrated not only musical achievement, but also the dedication, creativity and enthusiasm that continue to make North Tyneside Music thrive.
